- Dramatic Literature
Ninth grade art is a "hands on" studio class offered once a week. Students work with a broad range of materials and artistic disciplines. First semester work includes positive/negative design, self portraits, subtractive monotype/multiple drop monotype and wire jewelry making. Second semester includes handbuilding in clay and the potter's wheel as well as collograph plate building and printmaking.
Art I is a studio art survey course open to students in 10th,11th,and 12th grades.Emphasis in the course is hands on experiential learning. Areas of focus the first semester are the visual elements,ceramic work(handbuilding and the wheel),applied design including fibers(silk wax resist batik) and simple jewelry making(beadmaking,silver wire jewelry,and slab constructed ceramic jewelry with gold glaze). Second semester work includes 2 point perspective,acrylic painting on canvas,introduction to intaglio printmaking (drypoint on copper),bookbinding and lettering,and metal sculpture . Lessons tie into art history and art appreciation discussions.Students are encouraged to write and discuss their work and the work of other artists.
Art II, III is a studio art survey course open to students in 11th,and 12th grades who have completed Art I. Emphasis in the course is hands on experiential learning. Areas of focus the first semester are the visual elements ( figure drawing), intaglio print making (etching) and woodcut, and sterling silver jewelry making. Second semester course offerings include painting with emphasis on 20th century artists,carving and casting sculpture, handbuilt and thrown ceramics and silkscreen print making.
Lessons tie into art history and art appreciation discussions.Students are encouraged to write and discuss their work and the work of other artists.
