    The eighth grade art elective  meets three times a week for one semester. Students  work with the figure in action, both in drawing and in wire sculpture. The Hudson River School of Painting provides inspiration for oil landscape painting. In the ceramic studio students work with functional "slab coil" vessels as well as develop skills on the potter's wheel.Sterling silver jewelry making includes metal smithing skills such as forming, forging and soldering. Students make functional and decorative jewelry pieces from 20 guage sterling silver sheet metal.

  • The first 1/2 of the semester is spent exploring the intricate nature of computers, their hardware, interactions and impact on society today, in the past, and in the future. We will look inside the computer to see what makes it tick and pull out and identify its parts. We will also look at the different kinds of computer software.

    The second 1/2 of the semester is focused on the Internet, Internet safety, electronic communications and effective web design. A functioning web site is designed and published during this portion of the course. During this half of the semester we will introduce Photoshop as a tool for web design and learn a few tips and tricks for using image editing software to create cool web graphics.

  • With Dance, students learn to work together as a team through movement and music.  Individually they learn balance, co-ordination, flexibility and expression through different dance forms. 

  • Students learn the ins and outs of basic argumentation and the tools of effective public speaking. They will engage each other in debates on topics of local or global interest.

  • This is the best elective ever.  You asked for it, so we created it for you.  Here, you will learn about nutrition and wellness.  Each Friday we have a cooking lab to practice what we have learned in the classroom.  We are having a great time!

  • This course introduces traditional black and white darkroom techniques and processes. Emphasis is placed on camera operation, composition, darkroom technique and creative expression. Upon completion, students should be able to successfully expose, develop and print a well conceived composition. Using their own 35mm film cameras to take photographs, students will develop printing techniques such as burning, dodging, the controls of density and contrast, as well as basic photo-finishing.
